The Liberia’s president elect George Oppong Weah has led the Weah All Stars team vs Armed Forces of Liberia ahead his presidential inauguration.
George Weah is due to become Liberia’s new president and commander-in-chief on Monday – but before that, the 51-year-old put his army’s football team through its paces with the help of his former teammates.
The striker started off at Mighty Barrolle before Arsene Wenger brought him to Europe, signing him for Monaco in 1988.
Over the years Weah went on to further his career at some of the biggest clubs including Paris-Saint Germain, Milan, Chelsea, Manchester City, Marseille and Al Jazira.
George Weah beat Vice President Joseph Boakai in a run-off vote, gaining 61.5 percent of the ballot against 38.5 percent for his rival and winning in 14 of Liberia’s 15 counties.
Weah’s CDC party won a total of 732,185 votes against Boakai’s Unity party, which garnered 457,579.
Weah is due to be sworn in on January 22, taking over from Ellen Johnson Sirleaf, who in 2006 took over the country founded by freed US slaves.
