A pressure group called ‘Coalition Of Concerned Youth Of Ghana’–COCYOGH f are ‘angry’ about SEC’s decision to shut down Menzgold’s activity of trading in gold collectibles and paying a dividend to its customers.
The group have hit the streets of Kasoa to demonstrate their displeasure at the decision of SEC and are asking Nana Akufo Addo and his government to leave Menzgold alone.
They are seen holding placards with inscriptions like; Nana Addo, leave Ghana businesses alone, Stop destroying local businesses, Justice 4 Menzgold, We are tired of you greedy leaders, Nam1 4 jobs, and more.
A few days ago, the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) issued a statement, directing Menzgold to shut down its gold trading activity as it did not have the license to do so. Menzgold in a quick reaction described the directive as “needless” but later issued another statement saying it was going to halt business for the next six days, which would end on 19th September 2018.
Several others have sympathized with the company since the SEC directive was issued and Social media has been buzzing with the #IStandWithMenzgold hashtag although there are some who stand with SEC’s decision.
We don’t know how far this new group, COCYOGH would be going with their demonstration, but we are certain, soon there will be a comment from the government soon.
